… ABOUT OUR CHOSEN RESEARCH

Our name is “The Marconi Street Pals” and we attend the 4th year of the classical high school “Mario Pagano.” 

We were inspired by the famous novel “The Paul Street Boys” and we decided that our project would pivot on one of the most central streets of Campobasso. Our aim is to analyze what actions  have been taken in favour of the livability and attractiveness of the heart of the main city of Molise. 

The shape of the street seems to embrace the historical center and, in the meantime, it connects historical and traditional parts of the city center to the more modern ones. 

We identify with the metaphor of Marconi Street because it ties us to our background, with a glance towards the future. 

As a group we intend to actively monitor the throbbing heart of our city because we care about its maintenance, in order to promote tourism in the old town. We are also aiming at improving and challenging the degradation of some areas of our town. 

In class we started by choosing our name and designing our logo, which shows the old town political map of Campobasso. At the bottom right of our logo there is a magnifying glass that represents a photo of Marconi Street, which is located halfway between the new city and the old town. This street represents us because, despite being a generation that lives their daily life in the new city, we care about safeguarding the old town.

 

Subsequently we proceeded to look for the data by contacting the city hall and the analysts went ahead with the work.   We met up to shoot videos and take pictures in the historical centre and in the meantime we asked some citizens if they noticed any improvement in the targeted area after the funds were deposited. Furthermore,by using social media, we reached out to various organizations for more information.     

Our research is directed towards the restoration of the older buildings and historical monuments situated in the old town.

In the first part of our research we focused on looking for useful data for the project we chose to work on. The project aims to monitor the redevelopment and environmental reconditioning of our historical centre in order to improve the locations we have our roots in.

We will analyze the reasons behind these operations and we will take into consideration other relevant interventions that could cater for both the aesthetical and functional conditions that affect our territory.

The Project was initiated by the Molise Region and realized by the municipality of Campobasso.

It is finalized to ensure the safeguard and conservation of our cultural heritage. Above all the objectives is to enhance local resources in order to increase tourism, improve citizens' livelihood, promote the development of urban areas through the usage of sustainable

resources and to enhance social cohesion.The Project started when €210265,95 were deposited

by the EU on the date 18/12/2015, hence multiple assets were added from the Fund for 

Development and Cohesion in 2016: €209988,06 on the 19th of September, then on the 27th of October €181816,54, furthermore on the 31st of the same month €6073,86 of additional funds were given. Lastly the Project was concluded on the 1st of November after €12005,28 were deposited. Consequently the total cost monitored amounted to €620149,19, moreover the project began on the same day that was planned and was completed before the due time of the expected date: 20/05/2016.
